-
Err yes this is that place....
Back in the 1860's one can only surmise there was a group of local eccentrics sitting around a table with several empty bottles of Welsh Whisky (yes they do make it)
and someone had the bright idea of renaming the local Railway Station as:
"Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch"
As the longest Railway Station name in the world this would ultimately attract tourists from all over to have their photos taken with the Station Name as the backdrop!
Pronounced as - "Llan-fair-pwll-gwyn-gyll-go-ger-ych-wyrn-drob-wll-llan-ty-silio-go-go-goch"
it roughly translates as
"Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of Saint Tysilio of the red cave"
(actually there are a few subtle variants to this as there is no single agreed English translation)
